Aelyn-Paeryc Petrovalyc
- The enigmatic owner and captain of the Stella Viventium. According to all official records, he (Along with his wife) does not exist. His existence is known only to a select, albeit loosely defined group of high-ranking Stella officials referred to unofficially as ’The Cabinet’. While holding no official rank, he is the primary driving force for the actions of the Stella, as a whole.
He is afflicted with an inexplicable condition that renders him unable to interact with the physical universe outside of the Stella and its key components, while still forcing him to conform to the laws of physics. The condition is also responsible for his immortality, with his age equalling that of the Stella itself plus twenty six Earth Years.
Having been born on Mars of Sol and intrinsically linked with the events surrounding the disappearance of the Sol System, he uses the virtually limitless resources at his disposal to obsessively hunt for the supposedly mythical system of his birth - an endeavor complicated by corrupted datafiles and various unexplained phenomena.
His first name is hyphenated to include the name of his deceased younger brother, Paeryc Petrovalyc, according to Martian tradition.
Alexia Petrovalyc
- The equally enigmatic wife of Aelyn-Paeryc. Afflicted with the same incorporeality and immortality condition, she is the only living entity capable of making physical contact with him, and vice-versa. The two are essentially a single unit, never seen apart and regularly finishing each other's sentences. As with A.P., she does not exist officially. While she does not claim the title of co-captain, the symbiosis between them means that no decision is made alone, and her word holds equal significance to her husband’s. The co-captain status remains unspoken, but intrinsically valid. While she is rarely seen to give orders to ‘the Cabinet’ or interject more than casual observations and suggestions, there is no illusion that she is anything less than the captain’s ‘other half’.
President Divad Noraa
- The acting commander-in-chief of the Stella Viventium, and highest-ranking official, she answers only to the Petrovalycs themselves. While in many ways she is a figurehead for the Petrovalycs, federal, civic, and governmental matters aboard the Stella are left entirely to her. While she technically resides in command over the shipboard control as well, matters involving ship movements and direction are of little significance to the general public and therefore left to the Petrovalycs, who can be more directly involved with the process due to that obscurity.
Dr. Dorin Harkahn
- Head of the Stella’s Research Department, he is the highest scientific authority on the ship. Like many of the other Department Heads however, he takes little direct involvement with the general affairs of his station, instead opting to focus on personal projects and the Captain’s search for Earth of Sol.
Dr. Harkahn is the leading authority on ’Notspace’ - the paradoxical phenomenon that is the basis for the Stella’s most well-kept secret, and most enigmatic mystery. Given the exceptional nature and difficulty of the mysteries surrounding Notspace, special measures have been taken to insure that Dr. Harkahn is the optimal researcher for the job.
Spoilers:He is the latest in a series of clones dating back to the earliest days of the Stella itself. While direct memory is not preserved and the clones are not exact, they are all derived from the source material of the ‘original’ Head Researcher Delilah Harkahn. Great care is taken with each incarnation to keep them from learning about the project. As such, Dorin Harkahn is unaware of this fact.
Dr. Harkahn is pops the collar of his stereotypical white lab coat because he thinks it looks cool. His completely unnecessary glasses are programmed to lens-flash ‘anime-style’ when he pushes them up the bridge of his nose, or cybernetically on command via BrainPal™. They also serve as a physical BrainPal™ interface and display.
Drakis Volo
- Head (or ’Chief’) of the Engineering Department, Drakis Volo is in charge of all matters involving the maintenance of the Stella and its components. He is an expert roboticist, and spends much of his time seeing to it that equipment directly relating to the Captain’s endeavors is kept in peak operating condition.
He is arguably the single most annoying individual in the Universe, and is fond of blatantly racist humor, completely lacking in social filters and political correctness. He has never been seen not wearing the pair of old-fashioned welding goggles on his face. Their purpose, as well as what might actually be underneath them, is the subject of much speculation.

Aleessa Rivierre
- Head of Stella Security. Capt. Rivierre oversees the general operations of the ship-wide security team. Most of her work, however, revolves around providing security for those most directly involved with the Captain’s endeavors.
She wears a highly advanced suit of combat armor that is linked with her BrainPal™ for additional functionality.
Gaelan Yascra
- Head Armorer and Defense Specialist. Charged with a smaller department than many of the other Cabinet members, Yascra spends most of his time managing the vast store of weapons, armor and ammunition that makes up the Stella’s impressive Arms and Armor Depot. He works closely with Capt. Rivierre, Drakis Volo and a small team of specialist to maintain the Stella’s defense systems, and is a vital, if uncredited factor in the overall safety of the Stella itself. When mercenaries are hired onto the Captain’s entourage, they are usually sent to him to be outfitted with the latest and best gear available.
Gaelan Yascra is commonly believed to be part snake, and hates everything. Except weapons. He likes those.
Isha Lastrow
- Head Communications Officer. While not technically the leader of any particular department, Isha’s job is one of the most frantic and vital among all of the Stella’s critical operations. All things ‘Comms’ are in some way or another routed through her. She manages an extensive network of other Comms Officers and personnel, somehow keeping the vast, chaotic web of both shipboard and in/outgoing communication in check.
Isha has been seen outside of the Stella Command Center on exactly four occasions. It is rumored that she never sleeps.
Dr. Beral Nathans, PhD
- Head of the Stella ‘Re-Sleeving’ facility, handling matters involving cloned bodies and the transference of digital consciousness to physical form - a science which allows for great feats of longevity and ’Life™ Insurance’. He also serves as overseer to many of the medical facilities throughout the Stella.
Despite the strangeness of his work, Dr. Nathans is markedly uninteresting. Nice guy, though.
Dr. Dragosi Möbius Volo
- Head of the Stella Public Transit Authority and self-proclaimed ’Evil Super-Scientist”. Officially, Dr. Volo’s duties are limited to the management of the extensive public transit system that weaves through the Stella like so many veins, as well as the distribution of cargo and delivery trucks. Unofficially, Dr. Volo believes himself to be ’The Evil Overlord of the Sixth Dimension of Darkness”. He spends his time dabbling in experiments that border on the arcane, and one day hopes to usurp the title of Dimensional Lord of Darkness. He also ran the Stella DMV, for the short time in which it was operational.
Father to Drakis Volo, Dragosi dons a similar, if more unusual pair of goggles than his son. He, too has never been seen without them.
Delano Harkahn
- President and CEO of BrainPal Industries, ‘Del’ is the leading expert on everything BrainPal™. Having served as Head of the Research Department before retiring and passing the title to his son Dorin, Del is not as involved in the affairs of Captain Petrovalyc as he once was. A man of wealth and taste, he spends his time basking in the fruits of a lifetime’s hard work while always looking out for new and innovative ways to use BPI technology. Though the BPI corporation has existed for much longer than Del has been alive, he is nevertheless responsible for several key developments within the company over the past decades and has published several books exploring the extensive history behind the technology that is so integrated with the lives of Stella citizens, and users throughout the Way. He also maintains a strong corporate presence within the Commercial District.
In a word, Delano Harkahn could be described as ’fruity’.
Notable Personnel - Former
Paeryc Petrovalyc
- Builder of the Notspace Drives. The younger brother of Aelyn Petrovalyc, Paeryc was the single most prolific scientist and inventor of his time. Despite a distinct lack of enthusiasm for public appearance, he was incredibly famous, and credited for dozens of vital innovations relating to the Stella Viventium and society as a whole.
During his lifetime and at the height of his fame, Paeryc Petrovalyc was seen as a quiet, reserved young man who preferred to keep to himself. The rare instances in which he allowed himself to be interviewed were precious to the eager citizens of Sol. He was an influential activist for AI rights and several controversial social issues.He was known to disappear for long periods of time,never letting on to where or why these abrupt hiatuses were taken.
Paeryc Petrovalyc laid the groundwork for what would later become the early BrainPal™ platforms, and is responsible for the construction of the strange, miraculous technology within the Stella Mainframe - but his most incredible invention is known only by a select few. It was he who, in secret, constructed the impossible Notspace Drives at the heart of the Stella Viventium - the machine capable of defying all the laws of nature, and manifesting a state of paradoxical, simultaneous existence and non-existence.
It is believed by the Captain that Paeryc was the force behind the disappearance of Sol and its respective planets, as well as the inexplicable condition suffered by himself and Alexia. Now long deceased, no records of Paeryc Petrovalyc’s appearance remain, and his existence has been long lost to history. The very few notes he left behind, now all in the possession of his surviving brother, have been little help in figuring out the seemingly impossible science behind his miraculous inventions.
It is also believed by the Captain that, somehow, Paeryc Petrovalyc left behind a series of clues in seemingly impossible places in order to lead his older brother back to Sol. No verifiable proof of this has as of yet been discovered.
Byron Petrov
- Architect of the Stella Viventium. A reclusive architectural designer, cosmologist and science-fiction enthusiast, it is this most distant ancestor of the Petrovalyc family line that is credited with the fundamental design of the Stella Viventium.
Little is known about the man, save for that among the scant remaining documents of his he wrote of having been inspired by dreams, and ”Haunted by the ghosts of angels”. While his overall sanity remains questionable, his devotion to laying the groundwork for the Stella many decades before the theoretical technology became a reality is not. While the aesthetics of his designs were clearly reminiscent of the contemporary science-fiction of the time, his predictions for the development of technology spanning centuries bordered on the prophetic. -
